Leadership and Management Capacity Development for Clergy

The UCJCI believes that for congregational transformation to be effective, the clergy leadership must be equipped with the technical competences for congregational leadership, management, and mobilizing communities. Twenty five (25) Ordained ministers were selected to undertake a suite of training in 2013, to cover the following areas:

  • Principles of effective leadership
    • Transformational leadership
    • Servant Leadership
    • Leading and Managing Small Teams
  • Effective Management Skills
  • Strategic Planning and Budgeting
  • Change Management
  • Effective Communication Skills
    • Communicating Vision and Ideas

Phase 1 of the series of the Leadership and Management Training for Ordained Ministers was conducted June 12-18, 2013. The course of training was delivered by the Management Institute for National Development (MIND), and included the following subject areas:

  1. Strategic Planning
  2. Principles of Change management
  3. Crafting and management of budgets

Phase 2: Delivered November 26-28, 2013

Training components:

  1. Effective Leadership and Management Skills
  2. Effective Communication Skills

As the UCJCI seeks to strengthen its ministry through providing transformative leadership at the level of each congregation, this project of capacity building will advance the strategic mission goal in the following ways:

  1. Provide continuing education in critical leadership and management areas where the present assessment points to a capacity gap.
  2. Equip clergy with the necessary technical skills and knowledge to provide appropriate leadership towards the transformation of congregations; particularly in the area of mobilizing, equipping and empowering the laity for dynamic partnership.
  3. Provide a sound competency platform for long-term succession planning for the leadership of the UCJCI
